Made by hand, a piece lasts when it's looked after by hand. A few notes, by cloth. When in doubt, the care label sewn into your piece is the final word.

Beaded silk

Dry clean with a cleaner who has experience with beaded pieces, and tell them the beads are hand-applied. Spot-clean marks gently with a damp cloth. Do not wring the piece or rub the beads, and never iron over them. Steam lightly from the reverse side.

Linen

Linen softens with wear and creases by nature — that's the character, not a fault. Hand-wash or machine-wash cold on a gentle cycle, and press while damp if you prefer it smooth.

Mesh

Hand-wash cold with a mild detergent, on its own so it does not snag. Do not wring or twist. Press the water out in a towel and dry flat or on a padded hanger, away from direct sun and heat. Do not tumble dry. If it needs smoothing, steam it from a distance or press lightly through a cloth on low heat.

Between wears

Let a piece air after wearing before it returns to the wardrobe. Keep it on a wide or padded hanger. Treat a mark quickly, rather than letting it set.
